Path for 1-6 Grade Teachers:
IFSEL Toolbox for the Elementary Grades
This workshop introduces the foundational SEL tools for students. The core IFSEL sequence of lessons is presented to meet the developmental needs of elementary-aged children.
The IFSEL "toolbox” also provides language and skills to address common classroom and group issues. You will experience activities that explore the capacity and motivation of children to apply social and emotional learning to their daily lives.
Lessons such as Layers of Feelings, De-Escalation, and Inside/Outside Circle engage self-understanding and social awareness.
This session is appropriate for teachers of older grades who want to learn and build upon basic SEL skills. The IFSEL “toolbox” content can easily be adapted for a variety of settings and ages, including parent groups.
Path for 5-12 Grade Teachers:
Insights and Ideas for Advisory Groups
SEL brings a wide and creative lens to view Advisory or homeroom meetings. This session offers the opportunity to consider design ideas for Advisory - goals, role of the Advisor, timing and grouping.
You will engage in a series of experiences that activate personal reflection, meaningful conversations, rituals, and positive group interactions among students. Explore ways to make Advisory a place where students have opportunities for leadership, collaboration, compassion, and stress management.
Participants will receive a repertoire of creative, effective teaching activities that are low in preparation and high in impact to assist them in building group harmony and support students’ development.
